What Syllabi are Available?

The Syllabus @ Yale tool contains syllabi and syllabus artifacts going back to 2006.

The Syllabus @ Yale tool has an extensive catalog of syllabi taught at Yale University which is now, for the first time in history, available for the Yale community to access and find with greater ease. Our records extend back to 2006 with gaps each year based on what was aggregated and collected via our legacy learning management systems (LMS) and current LMS, Canvas @ Yale, as well as what was uploaded by school and department registrars.

Missing Syllabi?

This is not an exhaustive repository of all syllabi taught at Yale, but rather a large collection of syllabi collected from Yale’s Learning Management Systems (LMS) over the past 25 years. Schools / departments have used Yale’s provided LMS in varying degrees over the years to support their teaching. If you are looking for a specific syllabus and do not find it in Syllabus @ Yale, we encourage you to reach out the course’s instructor or department registrar.

  • 60,000+

    course syllabi on record

    unique courses across Yale

How Syllabi Are Collected into Syllabus @ Yale

The Syllabus @ Yale tool houses multiple types of syllabus artifacts:

  • Syllabus File
  • Canvas Syllabus Tool
  • Canvas Page that serve the role of the Syllabus

These syllabus artifacts are pulled from Canvas on a yearly basis and cross-referenced with Yale catalog data to appropriately match the files with the appropriate course listing. Many courses subsequently have both a syllabus file and the Canvas Syllabus tool page if it was used by the instructor.

Syllabi are collected for all courses that have a file labeled syllabus and/or a Canvas Syllabus Tool page that has been edited to include information. However, not all collected syllabus artifacts are available to view by the general public. The Syllabus @ Yale tool honors faculty privacy permissions set in their Canvas course site that may limit members outside of the course from finding and viewing their syllabus.

Additionally, department registrars can gain admin access to Syllabus @ Yale to further manage their department’s syllabus artifacts. Including the ability to:

  • Replace incorrect syllabus artifacts
  • Hide syllabus artifacts
  • Re-Index syllabus artifacts to different course catalog listings
  • Upload and index additional syllabus files from their department’s archives to the central repository
